DURHAM, N.C. - Duke stands in ninth place – up 26 spots from its previous ranking – in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released earlier today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. The Directors’ Cup rankings measure an athletic program’s comprehensive sports success by totaling points based on a team’s finish in national competition.
After the previous ranking released in March, Duke added 289 points from men’s basketball (100 points – 2010 NCAA Champions), women’s basketball (73 points), fencing (60) and men’s swimming & diving (56) to total 569.5 points. Overall, Duke ranks second among private institutions (Stanford is first). Four Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked in the top 10 – Virginia (5th, 610.5), Florida State (6th, 598.25), North Carolina (8th, 573.5) and Duke (9th, 569.5).
