DURHAM, N.C. - Duke stands in sixth place – up nine spots from its previous ranking – in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released earlier today by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. The Directors’ Cup rankings measure an athletic program’s comprehensive sports success by totaling points based on a team’s finish in national competition.
Recently, Duke has added points from men’s basketball (64 points), women’s basketball (73), fencing (63), men’s swimming & diving (54), women’s swimming & diving (55), and women’s indoor track & field (47.5) to total 639.5 points. Overall, Duke ranks second among private institutions (Stanford is first). Three Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked in the top 10 – North Carolina (4th, 717 points), Florida State (5th, 670.5) and Duke (6th, 639.5).
