Pat Thompson begins his first season as Duke's Director of Basketball Operations and his second year on staff.  As the Director of Basketball Operations, Thompson is responsible for scheduling all team practices, meals, and meetings, disseminating information between the coaching staff and support staff, managing the Nike equipment for the program and assisting with the day-to-day activities of the coaching staff.  Thompson also coordinates the annual Coaches Clinic, functions as the basketball commissioner for the annual K Academy and helps lead the summer Coach K Basketball Camps as the assistant director.

Thompson, a Hamilton, N.J. native, joined the Duke Basketball staff as the Graduate Assistant after graduating from Duke University in May of 2011 with a BA in Public Policy Studies.  During his time as an undergraduate, Thompson served as a four-year student manager with the Duke Basketball team, earning the Gopal Varadhan Senior Manager Award after the 2010-2011 season.  During his senior year, Thompson was recognized by The UPS Store as one of the top four student managers in the nation.  In addition to his responsibilities with basketball as an undergraduate, Thompson also served as a cadet in Duke's Army ROTC program and earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation in May 2011.

Thompson currently serves as the lead intelligence officer for the 422nd Civil Affairs Battalion in the United States Army Reserve.  He graduated from the United States Army's Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Ga. in August 2011, earning the Army Parachutist Badge.  Thompson also graduated from the Basic Officer Leaders Course for Military Intelligence at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. in May 2012.  During his time at Ft. Huachuca, Thompson earned the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge in Gold for completing a series of physical tests at a high standard.  He also earned the Army Achievement Medal in recognition for his writings on counterterrorism and counterinsurgency.  Thompson hopes to continue to serve in the United States Army while working for the Duke Basketball team.
