DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse team returns home to face Vanderbilt Saturday, March 2.  Game time is set for 2 p.m. Recently GoDuke.com sat down with senior Lauren Martin to learn more about the Weston, Mass., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Lauren Martin: It's pretty incredible every time you have a big game. There are a lot of people around, you walk out on the field wearing your jersey and you are with your team. I have so much pride every single time I walk out on to the field with the team, and it is just all-encompassing pride in those few moments.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
LM: My favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete is the support that we get. Everyone tells us this, but it is the perfect parallel between academics and athletics. I feel like I've been challenged, I've matured and I've grown in so many ways with the support of an incredible staff and people along the way that have helped me to grow up and become the person I am.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any words of wisdom for any future Duke athletes?
LM: Just take advantage of everything that Duke has to offer because coming into my last semester there are so many things that I want to do and want to cram into one semester. Do weird quirky things that Duke has to offer and take advantage of all the things that are provided here.

GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you first started playing lacrosse.
LM: I actually played soccer my entire life. I started lacrosse pretty competitively my freshman year of high school, and I really like running so I loved the aspect of the field. Then it kind of transpired from there, and everything kind of manifested itself. I ended up playing club lacrosse and I have no idea how I ended up here, but they saw me in a tournament and I was fortunate enough to come to Duke. Lacrosse was never really my first love, but I was so happy to play it in college. It's been great.

GoDuke.com: What was your favorite food as a child?
LM: Ice cream. I love ice cream, especially vanilla. I love frozen yogurt now so it hasn't really changed. My favorite places to go around here? LoYo [Local Yogurt] is always pretty standard, but Tutti Frutti is good too. There are a lot of places.

GoDuke.com: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
LM: I was never a person who had a direction of what I wanted to do. I just knew that I wanted to be around smart people. Whatever I do in my life, I just appreciate academics and I wanted to be around people who could teach me things so I didn't have a dream job, but I knew the lifestyle I wanted. I just didn't know what was going to get me there.

GoDuke.com: Is there any chore you cannot stand doing?
LM: I hate taking out the trash if that counts, but I do it all the time.

GoDuke.com: If you won the lottery what's the first thing you would do?
LM: I think I would travel. That would be awesome. I think I would go somewhere really remote and crazy, probably Southeast Asia. I spent a summer there so I would probably go back there and go to Thailand or something. I was doing Coach for College while I was there so I went to Vietnam for three weeks coaching and teaching. It was awesome and I got to travel a bit afterwards. I had been to Europe before and seen that, but being somewhere so vastly culturally different was incredible. I loved it.

GoDuke.com: If you were a super hero, what power would you want?
LM: Super speed. I just want to go fast.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any embarrassing music on your iPod?
LM: I'm pretty good with my iPod. I play it a lot at practice, but I would say probably weird dubstep stuff. People are like 'Huh? Why do you listen to that?' So probably that sort of thing, kind of creepy.

GoDuke.com: What is one possession you can't live without?
LM: My Phone. I love my phone, everything is on it.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any pregame rituals?
LM: When I get nervous I like to dance and jump around. That's why I usually like pregame because I get to dance and jump around.

GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
LM: My mom. She's just a source of inspiration, support, encouragement, passion and everything that moms should be.
