DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke men's golf team will take a short reprieve before heading to the ACC Championships April 26-28 in New London, N.C.  Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Julian Suri to learn more about the St. Augustine, Fla., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Julian Suri: I’d say probably helping the team get to the final four at nationals my sophomore year. That was really special. No one thought we could do it. We made it to match play, and ended up beating the No. 1 seed UCLA. It’s pretty awesome to come that close.

GoDuke.com: What was your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
JS: The facilities are great, the coaches are awesome, but honestly just being around all these people. The whole support system, the athletic department, and the guys on the team are great. The whole environment is very competitive, and you always have to be at your best.

GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you first started playing golf.
JS: Well my dad helped me start golf by taking me to a local high school and hit out on the football fields during the summer. I’d have a big bucket of range balls and just hit balls with all the geese there and the field goal posts and everything, and I have really been hooked ever since.

GoDuke.com: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
JS: Professional golfer. Never wanted to be a firefighter or anything like that, that was always it.

GoDuke.com: What was your favorite food as a child?
JS: Probably…pizza maybe? I don’t know.

GoDuke.com: How about now? What is your favorite food now?
JS: I make a pretty mean omelette, but I don’t know. I can always put down some pancakes or something. It’s gotta be easy.

GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
JS: My parents, especially my dad. He got me started in golf, and he is pretty much my best friend. I talk to him every day, even when I am here and I can talk to him about anything. He has probably always been my best friend.

GoDuke.com: If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
JS: I would buy my parents a house wherever they want. I think my mom has always wanted a penthouse in New York, but we will see how those payments work out.

GoDuke.com: If you could play any sport other than your own, what would it be?
JS: I played tennis, but I got hooked on watching handball over the summer with the Olympics. I have never tried it, but it looks really fun.

GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents?
JS: I sleep really well. I am good at it. I sometimes try my talents at singing, but I’m not very good. I play ping-pong a little bit.

GoDuke.com: What is one possession you can’t live without?
JS: Cell phone, whenever I get bored I just pull it out and mess around on it.

GoDuke.com: Anything on the iPod that might be embarrassing?
JS: I am a pretty big Taylor Swift fan. Maybe Enrique Iglesias.

GoDuke.com: Any words of wisdom to pass along to freshmen or future Blue Devils?
JS: Don’t be lazy, don’t slack off, because going here for four years, five years, however long you’re here is a tremendous opportunity to improve yourself. There are so many resources here, so don’t fail to take advantage of them because it is awesome here and I would not regret coming here for a second.

GoDuke.com: In an ideal world, where are you five years from now?
JS: I’ll be playing on the PGA tour, living the dream, hopefully travelling all over the world seeing all kinds of cool places, and having a good time.
