DURHAM, N.C. - Duke Athletics stands in eighth place in the latest Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics today.

Overall, Duke has 923.60 points and ranks third among private institutions behind Stanford (1st) and Notre Dame (7th). Four current Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked among the top 20 –North Carolina (4th), Duke (8th), Florida State (15th) and Virginia (17th). The Blue Devils ended up with a 16th-place finish in 2011-12.

Duke, which improved from 19th place in the previous standings, added 407 to its previous point total based on impressive national finishes by its women’s golf (second place, 90 points), men’s lacrosse (national champion, 100 points), women’s lacrosse (70 points), men’s tennis (83 points), and women’s tennis (64 points) programs.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
