DURHAM, N.C. -- Ten Duke University varsity athletics programs registered a perfect 1000 score in the most recent multi-year Academic Progress Report (APR) data released on Tuesday by the NCAA.

Overall, Duke’s teams averaged 992 points.  For the four academic years ending in 2011-12, all of Duke’s squads scored at least 978 points.  Duke’s 10 teams with 1000 points are the most by an ACC institution, followed by Boston College (9).

The Duke football and men’s basketball squads were two of the school’s 13 teams to earn the highest APR scores among ACC institutions in conference-sponsored sports. Duke led the way in football with a score of 989, while the men’s basketball squad was tops in the league with 995 points.

In all, Duke totaled the highest APR scores among ACC institutions in 13 of the league’s 25 sports ― men’s basketball, football , men’s golf (1000), men’s lacrosse (997), men’s soccer (995), men’s swimming and diving (1000), men’s indoor track and field (1000), men’s outdoor track and field (1000), women’s golf (1000), women’s lacrosse (1000), rowing (1000), volleyball (1000) and wrestling (1000).

The Blue Devil football program was tops in the league, followed by Clemson (985), Georgia Tech (983), Boston College (982), Miami (977), Wake Forest (970), Virginia Tech (970), Virginia (959), Florida State (954), N.C. State (947), Maryland (937) and North Carolina (934). Duke ranked third among all FBS schools, behind only Northwestern (996) and Boise State (993), and eighth among all Division I – FBS and FCS – programs.

Last week, it was announced that 15 Duke varsity athletics programs were honored by the NCAA for placing among the top 10 percent in their respective sports nationally in the latest multi-year APR report. The Blue Devils' baseball, men's basketball, women's fencing, football, men's golf, women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, rowing, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's indoor track and field, men's outdoor track and field, volleyball and wrestling programs were among those listed by the NCAA.

Each year, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I team through the annual scorecard of academic achievement, known as APR. The score measures eligibility and retention each semester or quarter and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 and 2011-12 academic years.
