Cindy Hartmann joined the Duke athletic staff in September of 2008 and serves as the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance. In addition to administering Duke’s compliance office, Hartmann is responsible for sport oversight of Duke’s rowing program.
Hartmann came to Durham after working for over a decade in the University of Dayton athletic department, serving most recently as an Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator (2001-07) and Internal Affairs Consultant (2007-08). During her tenure, she managed the compliance and academic affairs departments, and also served as the sport administrator for women's basketball, volleyball, softball and women's soccer.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Hartmann's previous experience in college athletics includes stints at Georgia Perimeter College (Sports Information Director), Georgia State University (Graduate Assistant Academic Advisor) and University of Connecticut (Assistant Compliance Coordinator & Compliance Coordinator).
Hartmann's experience also includes a four-year term (2002-06) on the NCAA Women's Basketball Committee and one year (2001-02) as a member of the NCAA Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet.
After earning four varsity letters as a member of the basketball team, Hartmann graduated from Syracuse University in 1991 with a degree in photojournalism. She went on to receive a master's degree in education-sport administration from Georgia State University in 1995.
Hartmann and her husband, Troy, are the parents of two children, Samuel and Olivia.
