DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Meghan Thomas to learn more about the Castle Rock, Colo., native.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke.
Meghan Thomas: Probably the first would be academics. Coming to Duke, the University has very strong academics. Second is the athletics, and being able to compete for a national championship. Third would be the community the athletes share. I think this year, being a senior, realizing when I go to the games, I know all of the athletes out there and that’s one more level than most people know watching them on tv, watching the basketball team, watching the lacrosse team. They come out to support our games and we go out to support them, and I think that’s a really cool aspect that we, as Duke athletes share.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘on the field’ memory?
MT: Probably beating Wake Forest in the national championship semifinals, just because all of us on the bench were so excited and so enthusiastic. We were really good. Being able to watch that soccer was really cool.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite ‘off the field’ memory?
MT: Probably Duke football beating UNC last year. I’m a huge football fan. I always wanted to go to a huge football school, so I think that was so much fun and so cool with Duke football going up against a huge rival. It was awesome.
GoDuke.com: Name three foods that you couldn’t live without.
MT: Fruit, sushi and pasta.
GoDuke.com: Name your three favorite restaurants in Durham.
MT: I really like Blue Seafood on Ninth Street. I really like Monuts. It’s a breakfast/doughnut place that’s amazing. I’d definitely recommend it, and then Revolution.
GoDuke.com: Describe yourself in three words.
MT: I would say I’m passionate, I have integrity and I’m hardworking.
GoDuke.com: Name three places you would travel.
MT: Definitely Greece. Maine, which is my favorite place, and then probably Brazil, just because I’ve heard such great things about it.
