Imani Dorsey and Morgan Reid were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason Best XI Freshman team.DURHAM, N.C. – As preseason practice gets set to kick off Wednesday, Duke University rookies
Both Dorsey and Reid are expected to make an immediate impact on the Blue Devil soccer team in 2014, after training with U.S. national teams over the summer.
Dorsey, a 5-foot-7 midfielder, led Our Lady of Good Counsel High School to a 13-1-6 record and the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Tournament title as a senior. Dorsey scored 15 goals and passed for seven assists. A member of the U.S. Soccer Under-18 Women’s National Team,
Dorsey was an All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for both her high school and club play. She concluded her prep soccer career with 51 goals and 30 assists with the Falcons.
A defender from Raleigh, N.C., Reid led Cardinal Gibbons to a 20-2-2 record and an appearance in the Class 3A East State Tournament quarterfinals this past season. Reid scored 24 goals and passed for nine assists on the season, while missing the first two state tournament games to participate in a training camp with the U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women’s National Team. A two-time club Youth All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and 2014 Gatorade State Player of the Year, she is also a three-time Class 3A First Team All-State honoree. She closed her career with 58 goals and 50 assists in her prep soccer career.
Duke will host South Carolina Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7:00 p.m., in an exhibition contest in Durham, N.C., followed by an exhibition match at UNC Wilmington Saturday, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils will open the regular season Friday, Aug. 22 at 5:00 p.m., versus Ohio State in Chapel Hill, N.C.
