DURHAM, N.C. – The first preseason top 25 ledger has been released for Division I women’s soccer with Duke University ranked seventh nationally in the NSCAA/Continental Tire listing.  It marks the second straight season the Blue Devils have been preseason ranked in the top 10.  

North Carolina was tabbed No. 1 heading into the 2013 campaign, while Stanford, Florida State, Penn State, UCLA, BYU, Duke, Virginia, Florida and Notre Dame in the top 10.  Rounding out the top 25 was San Diego State, Texas A&M, Baylor, Marquette, Wake Forest, Santa Clara, Maryland, Georgetown, Michigan, California, UCF, Portland, Ohio State, Texas Tech and Denver.

A total of seven ACC teams were ranked in the top 25, including five in the top 10.  

Head coach Robbie Church and the Blue Devils return five starters and 22 letterwinners off the NCAA Elite Eight squad from a year ago that registered a 15-6-2 overall record.  Duke welcomes back 95 percent of its scoring, including nine student-athletes who scored one or more goals last year, including the top four scorers from a year ago.  

Duke will host Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 16 at 5:00 p.m., in an exhibition contest before hitting the road to open the 2013 regular season.  The Blue Devils will face Texas A&M in College Station, Texas on Aug. 23 and then will take on South Carolina in Columbia, S.C., on Aug. 25.  Duke features eight home contests this season with all home games being played at Koskinen Stadium.
