Hello Blue Devil Fans,
I am writing to you from the beautiful city of La Manga, Spain. After gathering everyone in Miami and then making the long trip to Madrid, we have finally endured three training sessions in the course of two days. After the hour and a half long bus ride that you may have heard Mollie talk about in her previous blog, we had lunch and headed out to the field for a bit of a competitive session which mainly focused on getting the "travel" out of our legs.
As tired as many of us were, we headed to bed shortly after dinner to wake up at 3:30 in the morning unable to sleep. The only channels that we are able to watch in English are Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel, which has made for interesting choices in shows. This lack of sleep definitely is catching up with us now but, surprisingly did not affect the training sessions negatively. I think it was the naps that saved us. Both sessions proved to be high paced and focused on team defending, a principle that is going to be important against our first opponent, Sweden.
Off the field, the weather is beautiful and the area in which we are staying could not be nicer. I have enjoyed my first few experiences with the Spanish culture and have even had some of their traditional dishes at dinner. I cannot complain! That is it for now. Stay tuned for more about this trip.
