Laura Weinberg of the Duke women’s soccer team was one of 19 players selected to represent the United States at the 19th Maccabiah Games July 17-30 in Jerusalem, Israel, as announced by head coach Abby Richter.DURHAM, N.C.- Junior
The team is slated to travel to Israel for training camp July 7-11, before it begins the Israel Connect Program July 11-18. During the program, athletes will train in the morning before travelling to various cultural sites including New and Old Jerusalem, Bedouin Tents, Metzada, Dead Sea and Yad Vashem, the Jewish Holocaust Memorial.
Weinberg, a native of Boca Raton, Fla., registered a school-record 44 points in 2012 as she scored 16 goals and assisted on 12 others for the Blue Devils. The 2012 All-ACC selection notched four multi-goal games and posted five game-winning goals on the season, helping the squad to an NCAA Elite Eight Appearance for the second consecutive season.
In her three seasons in Durham, Weinberg has etched her name into the Duke record books in a number of categories including points (5th, 86), points per game (2nd, 1.18), career goals (T-4th, 34), goals per game (3rd, 0.47) and shots on goal (1st, 127).
