DURHAM, N.C.-  Blue Devil Incoming freshman Toni Payne was selected to train with the United States Under-20 Women’s National Team April 13-20 as it travels to the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., for training camp, as announced by head coach Michelle French this week. Of the 24 members named to the team, Payne is one of only 12 players named to the squad who have yet to graduate from high school.

Payne, a midfielder from Birmingham, Ala., is set to join an Under-20 team who is coming off three-matches in La Manga, Spain where it tied Norway and Sweden and lost to Germany. Although not a member of that team, Payne has experience playing with the United States National Team after attending the U-20 training camp in February and competing in the 2012 CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championship in Guatemala.

While playing at Oak Mountain High School, Payne garnered NSCAA All-America accolades during her junior and senior seasons, while also being named a two-time Birmingham News All-State first team and All-Metro Team selection, as well as Birmingham News State & Metro Player of the Year honors. Payne recorded 37 goals and 25 assists during her junior campaign at Oak Mountain, while leading her team to a 28-2 overall record.

While at training camp, the U-20 squad will scrimmage the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team, which will feature Duke junior Mollie Pathman, April 16 and April 19.
