DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University incoming freshman Christina Gibbons scored two goals for the North Carolina squad over the weekend in the seventh annual Clash of The Carolinas at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island in South Carolina. The match featured high school standouts from the state of North Carolina versus South Carolina with the contest finishing in a 3-3 draw.
Gibbons, who is a product of Raleigh, N.C., scored the first two goals of the match and was named the MVP of the North Carolina team. She opened the match in the 20th minute with a rebound goal, after a wild flurry in the box. Gibbons, who recently led her Cardinal Gibbons squad to the state championship, added her second goal in the 32nd minute as she intercepted a goal kick just outside the top of the 18 and fired it in to give North Carolina a 2-0 lead.
After South Carolina scored to cut the North Carolina lead to 2-1, Gibbons added an assist on a goal by Kendall Fischlein of Lake Norman to increase the lead to 3-1.
South Carolina cut the lead to 3-2 in the 72nd minute and Northwestern High School’s Lauren Watts scored in stoppage time conclude the match with a 3-3 draw.
