DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University freshman Christina Gibbons will make her first appearance with the United States U-20 Women’s National Team from Feb. 22 through March 1 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., as the squad prepares for the 2014 World Cup.

Head coach Michelle French has called 24 players to the teams’ first training camp that will feature two matches against fellow FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier China PR.  The USA will face China on Wed., Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. ET and on Sat., March 1 at 1 p.m. ET.

The camp will also include a scrimmage against the University of Florida on Wed., Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET, mostly for players that didn’t get to play against China earlier in the day.

Gibbons, who is a product of Raleigh, N.C., started all 24 contests, guided the Blue Devil defense to seven shutouts and played a team-best 2,228 minutes, which was a school-record for a freshman.  One of the most consistent players on the team in 2013, Gibbons registered assists against Arkansas in the NCAA Tournament, Virginia Tech and Kennesaw State.  She earned TopDrawerSoccer.com Freshmen Best XI, All-ACC Freshman team honors as well as Duke Classic All-Tournament team recognition during the season.

The U.S. earned its berth to the upcoming U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held Aug. 5-24 in four Canadian Cities (Edmonton, Montreal, Moncton and Toronto), by rolling through the CONCACAF qualifying tournament, winning all five games by a combined 29-0 margin.
