Duke Stands 14th in Latest Directors' Cup Standings
DURHAM, N.C. - Duke Athletics stands in 14th place in the second fall Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics today.
Overall, Duke has 189 points and ranks sixth among private institutions behind only Georgetown (4th, 252.50), Stanford (5th, 251.50), Princeton (6th, 245), Notre Dame (7th, 243), and Syracuse (12th, 207). Five current Atlantic Coast Conference schools are ranked among the top 14 – North Carolina (1st), Florida State (9th), Virginia (10th), Maryland (11th), and Duke (14th). The Blue Devils ended up with a 16th-place finish in 2011-12.
Duke improved its point total with an NCAA quarterfinals appearance by its nationally ranked women’s soccer team. That showing garnered the Blue Devils 73 more points in this ranking.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's national finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 women’s and 10 men’s.
