Honors: ACC Academic Honor Roll (2014, 2015, 2016)
2015-16: Saw action in four cross country meets…opened the campaign with a 52nd-place finish at the Princeton Inter-Regional Meet (10/3), clocking a time of 24:50.4…posted an 8K time of 24:31.9 at the Pre-Nationals Invitational (10/17)…served as Duke’s fourth-place finisher at the ACC Championships (10/30)…registered a personal-best 10K time of 30:53.7 to finish 47th at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships (11/13)…during the indoor season, won the Camel City Invitational (1/29) mile with a converted personal-best time of 4:08.48…qualified for the ACC Indoor Championships (2/26) in the mile (4:11.32) and the 3,000 (8:19.40)…kickstarted the indoor campaign with a second-place finish at the Carolina Cup (1/15) in the 3,000, posting a personal-best time of 8:17.96…won the VT Challenge (2/20) 3,000 with a time of 8:19.47…split time between the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 during the outdoor campaign…qualified for the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/13) in the 1,500, placing 21st in the preliminary round of the competition with a time of 3:53.91…won the 3,000 at the Spec Towns Invite (4/8) in personal-best time of 8:24.98…served as a leg of Duke’s first-place finishing 4x1,500 relay at the Raleigh Relays (4/30)…named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll.
2014-15: Competed in one event unattached during the fall, placing fifth overall at the Three Stripe Invitational (11/8) with a 5K time of 14:56.89…Outdoors, clocked a season-best 1,500 time of 3:56.67 at the Duke Twilight (5/6)…shattered previous 5,000-meter personal-record at the Penn Relays (4/23), running a time of 14:24.68 to place second overall…qualified for the ACC Outdoor Championships (5/16) in the 5,000…did not compete during the 2015 indoor season...named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the second straight season.
2013-14: In his first cross country season at Duke, competed in six meets…opened his career at Duke with a first-place finish at the Bull City Classic (8/31)…also placed first at the Three Stripe Invitational (11/9) in a personal-best 5K time of 15:10.74…scored in four of his six appearances…clocked his fastest 8K time of the season at the Furman XC Challenge (9/14), crossing the line in 24:31.37…Indoors, opened his college indoor career with an 11th-place finish in the mile at the Virginia Tech Invitational (1/17), clocking a 4:17.34…also entered the 3,000 at the Dick Taylor Challenge (1/24), running a season-best converted time of 8:25.24…Outdoors, primarily competed in the 1,500…qualified for the ACC Outdoor Championship (4/18), placing 21st overall in the 1,500 with a season-best time of 3:51.46...also competed in the 5,000 at the conference championship, placing 32nd in a time of 14:41.49…set a personal-best time in the mile, finishing 10th at the Joe Hilton Invitational (4/12) in a time of 4:09.74.
Prior to Duke: Four year letterwinner in cross country and track & field under Sean Ryan at Briarcliffe High School…two-time outdoor New York Division II State Champion (3,200 - 2013, 1,600 – 2013)…qualified and medaled in seven New York State Championships throughout his career…two-time participant at the New Balance Indoor Track & Field Championships (2012, 2013), finishing ninth in the two mile his senior year….finished eighth in the 5000 meters at the New Balance Outdoor National Championships…placed second in the Penn Relays Carnival Championship of America 3,000 (2013)… garnered 12 All-State and All-Section honors while adding 13 All-County honors during his prep career…three-time league champion in cross country (2011, 2012 and 2013)…two-time indoor track league champion (1,000 – 2013, 1,600 – 2013)…five-time outdoor track league champion (800 – 2013, 1,600 – 2012 and 2013, 3,200 – 2012 and 2013)...holds 2 NYS Section 1 records, three Westchester County records and 15 Briarcliff High School records…served as team captain for cross country and track & field teams…also a three year letterwinner with the varsity swim team…tabbed an AP Scholar with honor and member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Son of Noreen and Stephen Shine…born on May 4, 1995…has one younger sister, Katherine…comes from an athletic family including his father who swam at the collegiate level at Manhattan College.
