DURHAM, N.C. – Duke defensive tackle Jamal Bruce and linebacker C.J. France each underwent surgery on Wednesday.  Bruce’s procedure was performed to repair a broken right foot while France needed an operation to mend a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Both Bruce and France will miss the contact portion of spring practice and no timetable for their return to action has been set.  Both procedures were performed by Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, Duke’s head team physician and the director of Duke Sports Medicine.

Bruce, a 6-1, 285-pound rising redshirt senior from LaGrange, Ga., started all 14 games for Duke this past season and recorded 33 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 quarterback sack.  In 33 career games, he has compiled 44 career tackles.  Bruce missed the first six games of the 2012 campaign after undergoing surgery on his left foot prior to the season.

France, a rising redshirt senior from Columbus, Ga., played in 12 games in 2013 and carded 20 tackles.  In 36 career contests, he has amassed 103 tackles.
