DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Assistant Director of Athletics/Football Operations Tony Sales was named one of three finalists for the FootballScoop.com Director of Football Operations of the Year award, the website announced Friday.

Sales is in his 14th season with the Duke football program and fifth as Assistant Director of Athletics for Football. The Blue Devils went 10-4 in 2013 while winning the ACC Coastal Division Championship and advancing to the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve, marking the first time in school history that Duke has played in bowl games in back-to-back years.

Sales’ primary role at Duke is to oversee the day-to-day administrative operation of the football program in the areas of budgetary management, team travel, preseason training camp and future schedule planning. In addition, Sales serves as head coach David Cutcliffe's liaison to the facilities, marketing, media relations, compliance and development offices which assist the football team. Other duties include assisting with game day management, the coordination and planning of team events and special projects related to the football program.  In his role, Sales also works closely with various university departments, faculty and staff and serves on the Athletics Department Senior Staff.

Prior to his current position, Sales served as Duke’s Director of High School Relations (2000-03), Director of Football Business Operations (2004-07) and Director of Football Operations (2008).

Sales was a two-year letterwinner at N.C. State, helping the Wolfpack to records of 9-3-1 in 1992 and 7-5 in 1993. N.C. State made appearances in the Gator and Hall of Fame Bowls during his tenure. Sales received his bachelor’s degree from N.C. State in technology education in 1996 along with a master’s in education in 2000. Sales also served as a graduate assistant coach at N.C. State for two seasons from 1997-99.
