DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke football team begins conference play this Saturday against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.  Game time is set for 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.  Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with redshirt senior Conor Irwin to learn more about the Knoxville, Tenn., native.

GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Conor Irwin: I think my first start that I had last year was probably my proudest moment; a lot of hard work coming through fruition right there.

GoDuke.com: What do you think the most misunderstood thing about football is?
CI: Probably the time and commitment we put into it. A lot of people talk about it, but I still don't think it's something you can understand unless you work with us first hand and really see what's going on every day and even stuff outside of practice that we have to do.

GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite part about being a Duke student-athlete?
CI: I think the challenge of academics and athletics together, the combination of the two really challenges you to manage your time and be the best that you can be on and off the field.

GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite class at Duke?
CI: Anatomy of the Lower Extremity. Dr. Mormon our team surgeon actually was the professor for it and I really enjoyed that class.

GoDuke.com: What's been your most challenging class?
CI: Physics probably. Physics, I took it this past summer and that was a beast.

GoDuke.com: What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
CI: Laundry. You put it all in there to wash it all and you think you're done, but then you have to put it all away. That's the worst part of it.

GoDuke.com: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
CI: My dad. Tim Irwin. He played football for a long time and coached me when I was younger so he's kind of always been a mentor to me and somebody that I strive to emulate what he does.

GoDuke.com: If you could play another sport besides football, what would it be?
CI: Golf, but I'm awful. I'm so bad at golf. I like to play, but I'm really bad.

GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you first started playing football.
CI: I started playing football when I was in fourth grade and I was believe it or not a really skinny kid back then so I had a hard time with it at first but I caught on eventually.  I was nine so I guess I've been playing now for thirteen, fourteen years.

GoDuke.com: What kind of music do you have on your iPod?
CI: Mostly country, old country especially. I like oldies. I like a little bit of everything, but country is what I grew up listening to so it's my favorite.
