DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke redshirt freshman Will Monday was named as one of 69 nominees on the Ray Guy Award watch list, as announced on Friday by the Augusta Sports Council.

Monday, one of only six freshmen on the list, leads the ACC and ranks eighth nationally with 45.77 yards per punt, booting 39 punts for a total of 1,785 yards. An ACC-leading 14 of his punts have traveled 50 yards or longer, and 12 have landed inside the opponent 20-yard line. Monday is the only player in the ACC with two punts of at least 60 yards and currently ranks second on Duke's single-season punting average list, trailing only Steve Lach who averaged 45.89 yards per punt in 1941.

A native of Flowery Branch, Ga., Monday has averaged no less than 43.5 yards per punt in each of Duke's eight games this season. He has a punt of at least 50 yards and has placed a punt inside an opponent's 20-yard line in every game this season.

The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. The Ray Guy Award winner is determined by a national voting body of sports writers, college coaches, sports information directors, and past Ray Guy Award winners. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times a punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage, and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.

The Ray Guy Award list will be narrowed to ten semi-finalists to be announced on November 9. Following the semi-finalists announcement, a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on November 19.  The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.

The presentation of the Ray Guy Award will be featured on The Home Depot College Football Awards live on Thursday, December 6 at 7:30 pm ET on ESPN.

Monday and the Blue Devils look to improve on their 6-2 start and stay atop the ACC Coastal Division standings this Saturday, Oct. 27, when they face No. 11 Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla.
