GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
Conner Vernon: You get the best of both worlds being a Duke student-athlete. Not only do you get week in and week out some of the best competition being in the ACC, but also Monday through Friday you're in the classroom with some of the most intelligent people in the world just learning something new every single day. So I definitely say it's the best of both worlds being at Duke.
GoDuke.com: What is the most misunderstood thing about your sport?
CV: Just the knowledge behind the sport. I think a lot of people think it's just a bunch of guys running around hitting each other, but there's really a lot more that goes into it, a lot more time and preparation that's involved during the week. A lot of people just see what's going on, on Saturday, they don't really see Sunday through Friday. I'd say that just preparation and behind the scenes stuff.
GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite class at Duke?
CV: Probably screen writing my sophomore year...it was a lot of fun.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite spot on campus?
CV: I'd probably say either The Loop or the football building [Yoh] because that's where I spend most of my time.
GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life? What lessons did that person teach you?
CV: I have a few but I definitely would have to say my brother...just because being the older brother he's always looking out for me and seeing what he's done in the last couple of years...bouncing from job to job and finding and starting his own company and seeing how every day he's on a mission to basically build something from the ground up. Hearing how he's doing with that every day is really influential to me because he's making his dream a reality.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite midnight snack?
CV: A peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
GoDuke.com: What is the first thing you notice about people?
CV: I'd probably say someone's personality...you can tell right away if someone's outgoing or more of a laid back person.
