DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head coach David Cutcliffe was selected as one of eight finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) in conjunction with the Fiesta Bowl.
This season Cutcliffe has guided Duke to a school-record 10 wins, the ACC Coastal Division Championship, a berth in the ACC Championship game and a trip to the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31. Cutcliffe has already been named the Walter Camp Foundation National Coach of the Year award as well as ACC Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
Joining Cutcliffe as finalists for the Robinson Award are Art Briles (Baylor), Mark Dantonio (Michigan State), Jimbo Fisher (Florida State), Gus Malzahn (Auburn), George O'Leary (UCF), Gary Pinkel (Missouri) and David Shaw (Stanford). The winner of the award will be revealed on Monday, Dec. 16 after voting is conducted by members of the FWAA.
Cutcliffe, in his sixth year at Duke, led the Blue Devils to their first ACC Coastal Division crown and a season resume that includes four straight weeks ranked in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll top-25, two wins over ranked teams, a 5-0 record in road games and an eight-game winning streak that is the fourth longest in school history. Duke’s 2013 season will culminate in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31 against No. 21 Texas A&M at the Georgia Dome, marking the first time in school history in which Duke has qualified for a bowl in back-to-back seasons.
