DURHAM, N.C. – Continuing his August honor haul, Duke redshirt senior offensive guard Laken Tomlinson was named to the FOX Sports Preseason All-America Team.
The 6-3, 320-pound Chicago native was one of only three offensive players from the ACC to make the team, joining Florida State tackle Cameron Erving and wide receiver Rashad Greene.
The FOX Sports selection is the latest preseason All-America award for Tomlinson, who was placed on the Athlon Sports and Phil Steele All-America teams. The four-year starter at right guard also earned spots on the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy Watch Lists.
On Thursday, Tomlinson was elected one of five Blue Devil captains for the 2014 campaign.
In 2013, Tomlinson was an All-ACC first team pick by the league’s head coaches as he anchored a Duke offense that established school single-season records for total first downs (298), offensive yards (5,966) and points (459).
Tomlinson has started 39 consecutive games and played 3,032 career snaps, the second most among active Division I offensive lineman. In 2013, he was named to the ESPN.com All-Bowl Team for his performance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in which Duke’s offense posted 48 points in a 52-48 loss to No. 21 Texas A&M. Duke surrendered the second fewest sacks per pass attempt in the ACC this past season.
Duke opens the season against Elon on Aug. 30 at Wallace Wade Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. To order tickets, call (919) 681-BLUE or visit www.GoDuke.com/footballtix.#GoDuke
