Parker & Varner to Participate in All-Star Games

DURHAM, N.C. - Seniors Danny Parker and Donovan Varner will represent Duke University in respective post-season all-star events on Saturday.  Parker is slated to participate in the AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif., while Varner is scheduled to play in the Battle of Florida in Boca Raton, Fla.

The AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will take place at 6 p.m. at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., while the Battle of Florida will kick-off at 8 p.m. at the FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Fla., and will be televised by Fox College Sports.

Parker, a tight end from Rockville, Md., played in 44 career games at Duke and caught 12 passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

Varner, a wide receiver from Miami, Fla., saw action in 46 contests as a Blue Devil, recorded a school record 207 pass receptions for 2,660 yards and 13 touchdowns and set the Duke standard for most consecutive games with at least one catch (37).  In 2011, he caught 61 passes for 713 yards and three touchdowns to become the first player in ACC history with three seasons of 60-plus receptions.  On Duke's career charts, Varner ranks first in receptions, tied for second in 100-yard receiving games (9), third in receiving yardage, tied for third in games with five-plus receptions (18) and tied for eighth in touchdown receptions.

Also on Saturday, Matt Daniels will participate in the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla.  Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised by the NFL Network.
