DURHAM, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference has granted Kenny Anunike, Lee Butler and Brandon Connette medical hardship waivers for the 2011 season, providing a fifth season of eligibility for all three Blue Devils.
Anunike, a 6-5, 250-pound rising redshirt senior defensive end from Galena, Ohio, appeared in four games last fall before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Tulane. Prior to the injury, Anunike was leading the ACC in quarterback sacks (4.0) and was credited with 13 total tackles including five for loss on the year.
Butler, a 5-11, 185-pound rising redshirt senior defensive back from Anderson, S.C., played in four contests before suffering a leg injury versus Tulane that kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season. Butler, who has seen action at both cornerback and safety during his time at Duke, had four tackles along with a 76-yard interception return for a touchdown against Stanford in 2011. For his career, he has played in 38 games with 113 tackles, three interceptions and 12 pass breakups while returning 35 punts for 300 yards and an 8.6 yards per return average.
Connette, 6-2, 225-pound rising redshirt sophomore quarterback from Corona, Calif., saw action in just two games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury against Stanford. For the season, he completed one-of-two pass attempts for 35 yards and rushed eight times for minus-14 yards and one touchdown.
