DURHAM, N.C. – Big plays ruled the morning during the Duke football team’s 81-snap scrimmage Friday at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Duke’s first-team offense scored touchdowns on a 37-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Boone to wide receiver Jamison Crowder and a 36-yard rush by running back Josh Snead, while freshman quarterback Quay Chambers added a 63-yard touchdown run with the second team.
“We let all of our people play today. We had everybody active and everybody going at it," Duke head coach David Cutcliffe said. "We got a lot of work done, and I thought we threw and caught the ball as well as we have all camp. We had some big plays on defense at times, too. You saw our defense get a little better as the game went along.”
Boone finished the morning 5-of-11 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown. Backup quarterback Brandon Connette hit 5-of-8 passes for 29 yards, and freshman Parker Boehme completed 9-of-12 passes for 65 yards.
Chambers’ 65 rushing yards were a team-high, while Snead led the running backs with 45 yards on two carries.
Duke’s defense logged six sacks and five pass breakups. Sophomore linebacker Deion Williams forced a fumble that was recovered by freshman defensive back Bryon Fields for the day’s only turnover.
