DURHAM, N.C. – As the Blue Devils closed out spring practice on Wednesday, head coach David Cutcliffe offered his assessment of the Duke program in an interview with GoDuke.com.
“Coming out of the Spring Game, I think our depth is definitely better than it’s been,” Cutcliffe said. “Are there things we need to correct? Absolutely.”
This past Saturday, quarterback Brandon Connette threw two touchdown passes to lead the Blue team to a 24-14 victory over the White squad in the annual Spring Game. Also on Saturday, Cutcliffe announced the program’s award winners for spring practice: Most Improved Offense – Terrence Alls and Casey Blaser; Most Improved Defense – Chris Holmes and Kyler Brown; Blue Devil Heart Award – Rob Collins and Mackenzie Sovereign.
Duke returns 44 lettermen and 17 starters – including three All-Americans and eight All-ACC picks – from last year’s unit that went 10-4, captured the ACC’s Coastal Division championship and appeared in the 46th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl. Cutcliffe, who enters his seventh season atop the program, earned ACC Coach of the Year honors for the second straight year and received National Coach of the Year accolades from five outlets.
The Blue Devils will open the 2014 season at home against Elon on Saturday, August 30. Duke season tickets may be purchased online at GoDuke.com/tickets or by calling the Duke Athletic Ticket Office at 919-681-BLUE.
