EUGENE, Ore. – Graduate student Juliet Bottorff and redshirt sophomore Thomas Lang each added an All-America accolade to their resume Saturday, as both posted top-16 performances in the final day of competition at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Bottorff, competing in her final NCAA Championship race, placed fifth in the women’s 5,000 in a personal-best time of 15:55.94 while Lang, competing in the first NCAA Championship of his career, placed 11th in the men’s javelin with a mark of 218-3 (66.53).

Bottorff, attempting the 5,000/10,000 double at nationals for the first time in her career, employed a similar tactic in the 5,000 as she had in the 10,000 two days earlier, positioning herself toward the front of the field and remaining in contact with the leader of the race. Bottorff never trailed the leader by more than a second through the first 2,200 meters of the contest. Sitting in seventh place with 800 meters remaining, the Newark, Del., native surged for the finish, passing two competitors in the process before crossing the line in fifth.

Bottorff concludes her college career with four outdoor track and field All-America honors, including two earned over this weekend’s competition.

After opening the men’s javelin competition with a foul, Lang rebounded nicely with a mark of 214-2 (65.28) on his second attempt. On his third attempt, Lang sent the implement out to 218-3 (66.53), moving him into fourth place in the first flight. Needing to finish in the top nine of both flights to move on to the final, the Royersford, Pa., native fell two places short of the cutoff, finishing the day in 11th place.

Behind Bottorff's 10 points, the Duke women placed 22nd as a team. The Blue Devils return to Durham, N.C., having earned four All-America honors.
