DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior quarterback Anthony Boone and senior wide receiver Jamison Crowder have been selected to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, an honor presented to the top player in the country by The Maxwell Football Club.

Last year, Boone, a 6-0, 225-pound native of Weddington, N.C., completed 206-of-322 (.640) passes for 2,260 yards with 13 touchdowns & 13 interceptions while rushing 66 times for 214 yards and five additional scores.  In the ACC, he ranked third in completions per game (18.73), third in pass completion percentage, sixth in passing yards per game (205.5), sixth in total offensive yards per game (224.9), eighth in points responsible per game (10.00) and eighth in pass efficiency.

Additionally in 2013, Boone posted three of Duke’s top 10 all-time best single-game pass completion percentage standards against Wake Forest (.828 [24-29]; 3rd), Navy (.816 [31-38]; 7th) and N.C. Central (.800 [16-20]; t9th).  Against Texas A&M in the 46th annual Chick-fil-A Bowl, he established Duke bowl game records for pass completions (29), pass attempts (45), passing yardage (427), total offensive yards (454) and TD responsibility (4) while matching the school standard for passing TDs (3).

Crowder, a 5-9, 175-pound native of Monroe, N.C., was an All-American punt returner as a junior as well as one of the top receivers in the nation. He posted an ACC single-season record 108 receptions for 1,360 yards and eight touchdowns while returning 25 punts for 402 yards and two touchdowns on the way to earning second team All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America, Sports Illustrated and Phil Steele.

A 2014 preseason All-America choice by Athlon Sports, Phil Steele, Sporting News and USA Today, Crowder is among the top deep threats in all of college football and last season grabbed four touchdown receptions of 50 yards or more. He had four games with double-figure receptions in 2013, including a career-best 12 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown in Duke’s 52-48 loss to No. 21 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.  For his career, Crowder has caught 198 passes for 2,597 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Maxwell Award is named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, a guard from the University of Chicago and Swarthmore College and went on to become a sports writer. Previous winners of the Maxwell Award include A.J. McCarron (Alabama), Manti Te’o (Notre Dame), Andrew Luck (Stanford), Cam Newton (Auburn), Tim Tebow (Florida), Eli Manning (Ole Miss), Peyton Manning (Tennessee) and Barry Sanders (Oklahoma State).

Boone and Crowder are two of 43 letterwinners returning to Duke in 2014 after helping the program to a 10-4 record, the ACC Coastal Division crown and a berth in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

Duke opens the season on August 30 against Elon at Wallace Wade Stadium. Tickets are available at http://www.goduke.com/footballtix or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
