Head Coach Ted Roof
“We had our chances.  We started off the game and turned it over deep in our own territory.  Our defense forced a field goal.  But if you look at where this thing was won or lost--when we got down to the blue zone we were oh-for.  On third down we couldn’t stay on the field, which was extremely disappointing.  That is what it comes down to.  To punch it in, finish a drive and to keep a drive alive--we didn’t do either one of those things well tonight.”

On losing Drummer and Boyle early:
“It impacted it [the play calling] quite a bit.  That is not an excuse.  Those are two guys that we count on to make big plays for us.  Justin was starting to get in a little bit of a rhythm.  We lost Ronnie really early and we had planned on giving him at least 15 touches, but that is what you have to do some of the time.  Injuries are a part of the game and that is the way it goes.  That wasn’t the reason we lost the game tonight.”

On the defense being on the field a long time in the third quarter:
“They responded well.  The other team was 1-for-3 in the blue zone and on third down they were only 6-of-17.  So our defense played well.  We just have to try to find a way to force some more take-a-ways, put our offense on a short field, our offense to stay on the field on third down to convert, finish the drive and punch it in.  With the kicking game, we were 0-for-2 on field goals and all of a sudden if we make both of those it is a different game down the stretch as well.  All of these details.  We have put more time into the kicking game here than any other place I have been.  We have to keep hammering home how important it is.  The details we talk about, work on and go over and over.  It is a direct correlation on winning and losing.”

On Thaddeus Lewis:
“I thought he did a nice job.  We are going to see some things on the tape and have already seen some things obviously on the field.  For his first college football game considering how far he has come since he got here.  He has come a long way.  We are proud of him.  We just have to find a way to finish it off.”

On moving on to Wake Forest game:
“We better be [focused] because it only gets tougher from here.  It is tough, what just happened.  We have a lot of football left and we have to get better for us to have a chance to beat Wake Forest.”

Freshman Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis
How did it feel out there tonight:
“It felt very well.  I just went out there and played my part and I tried to do the best to help my team win.”

What did the coaches tell you going into the game and at halftime:
“The coaches said I would get into the third series and then we would work it back and forth.  At halftime, they told me I would go back in and they didn’t know if we would rotate in and out or not.  They decided to keep me in and I had to play 110 percent and give my best.”

“I felt comfortable.  At the beginning I was very nervous. To keep the offense going you have to be comfortable and poised out there.  I tried my best to be poised as I can, but it was coming.  That was a good thing.”

Sophomore linebacker Michael Tauiliili
“Any loss is disappointing, but when you know you are well-equipped and favored, it is hard to lose a game like this.”

On Richmond’s long drive in the third quarter:
“Me personally, it was tough.  All of the conditioning we put in this summer really paid off.  If that was last year I don’t know.  We held them to three points and a couple of penalties cost us.  A lot of guys pulled and fought through, which is something that is different here.”

On moving on to next week against Wake Forest:
“That is exactly what it is [a wake-up call]. We were kind of high on a pedestal.  The media put us up as a favorite.  That is what happens to good teams and now it is a wake-up call.  It will depend on how we come in on Monday morning in the film room and practice.  That is where leaders come in and we have to bring everyone together.  I have seen it done.  You lose the first game and it is a wake-up call.  Now you get going.”
