DURHAM, N.C. – Just a day before it kicks off play at the NCAA Central Regional, the Duke women’s golf team was tabbed at No. 3 in the final Golf World/WGCA Division I College Women’s Coaches’ Poll of the 2013 spring season, as announced by the organization Wednesday. The Blue Devils are slated to compete at the three-day, 54-hole NCAA Central Regional May 9-11 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., with the top eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championship May 21-24 in Athens, Ga.

After winning five titles this season, USC earned the top spot in the poll, while reigning champion Alabama, Duke, Oklahoma and UCLA round out the top-five respectively. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is represented by four teams in the poll, including Duke, Virginia (No. 14), North Carolina (No. 15) and N.C. State (No. 21).

The Blue Devils are coming off a strong showing at the ACC Championship, where the team posted rounds of 293, 292 and 297 to top second place N.C. State by 24 shots, claiming the program’s 18th conference championship. Junior Laetitia Beck led the way for the team in the event, finishing in second place after carding rounds a six-over par, 219, in the tournament. Beck owns a 73.13 stroke average on the season, including nine rounds of par or better.

Senior Lindy Duncan leads the Blue Devils this season, tallying a 72.19 stroke average while garnering four top-five finishes, five top-10’s and seven top-20’s. Duncan, the 2012 PING NGCA National Player of the Year, has fired a team-high 10 par or better rounds this season, highlighted by a second place finish at the Cougar Classic where Duncan carded a nine-under par, 207.

The third-ranked Blue Devils kick off the NCAA Central Regional Thursday, May 9 at 8:36 a.m., and will return to the course Friday, May 10 at 12:56 p.m., for the second round.
