DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Maddy Acton has received WomensLax.com Rookie of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal Friday, May 10 in the Blue Devils’ 10-9 double overtime victory against Princeton in the NCAA Tournament first round.
Acton tallied two markers in the win over Princeton, with her second coming just 45 seconds in the second overtime period to advance Duke to the second round in dramatic fashion. The midfielder from Sudbury, Mass., also scored in the Blue Devils’ 10-5 victory over eighth-seeded Navy Sunday, May 12, in addition to registering one ground ball and one draw control.
Through 19 games this spring, Acton is tied for sixth on the squad with 21 points on 18 goals and three assists. She has also posted nine draw control wins and ranks fifth on the team in shooting percentage with a .514 clip.
Acton and the Blue Devils continue NCAA Tournament action Saturday, May 18 at 12 p.m. when they travel to College Park, Md., to face top-seeded Maryland in the quarterfinals.
