Christina Gibbons, Toni Payne and Lizzy Raben were among the 12 players who received first team accolades.DURHAM, N.C. – The Elite Soccer Report (ESR) released its 2013 Spring All-America teams with three incoming Duke women’s soccer freshmen on the list.
As a senior, Gibbons registered 34 goals and added 20 assists for Cardinal Gibbons. A product of Raleigh, N.C., Gibbons collected 53 goals and 31 assists over her final two years of high school and led her squad to the 3-A State Championship to close her career.
Payne, who was the 2013 Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year, scored 47 goals and registered 35 assists this past season, leading Oak Mountain High School (22-4-2) to the Class 6A state championship game. Payne, who is from Birmingham, Ala., was the 2012 Birmingham News Player of the Year. She concluded her prep soccer career with 141 goals and 92 assists.
A native of Greenwood Village, Colo., Raben is a member of the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team. She was a NSCAA All-America as a senior, while totaling four goals and leading Cherry Creek H.S., to 10 shutouts on the defensive end. She is ranked No. 24 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com club soccer rankings.
The trio along with the rest of the Duke women’s soccer team will kick off preseason practice on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
