DURHAM, N.C. -- The final edition of the Duke Football Summer Spotlight features redshirt freshman safety Corbin McCarthy, who is in the mix for a starting spot in Duke's 4-2-5 defensive scheme heading into the preseason.
McCarthy, a 5-10, 200-pound native of Norco, Calif., worked his way into the safety rotation as a true freshman and carded four tackles in two games. Against Stanford in week two, however, he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and took a medical redshirt.
McCarthy was a three-year letterwinner at Norco Senior High School where he helped the team produce a 26-10 record, three state playoff appearances and one league championship. As a senior, he logged 72 tackles, six tackles for loss and 23 PBUs en route to earning first team All-CIF honors.
The Duke Football Summer Spotlight runs every Wednesday on GoDuke.com. Be sure to check back next week for the newest installment.
