DURHAM, N.C. – The 2013 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy watch list was released on Tuesday with Duke senior defender Natasha Anasi one of 31 women selected.  The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Anasi is one of six student-athletes who were named 2012 semifinalists that are also on this season’s list -- Daphne Corboz (Georgetown), Maya Hayes (Penn State), Julie Johnston (Santa Clara), Kealia Ohai (North Carolina) and Crystal Dunn (North Carolina).

A product of Arlington, Texas, Anasi enters her final year with the Blue Devils after helping lead Duke to 32 shutouts over the last three years.  The 5-6 center back has started a team-best 51 straight games for Duke.  A two-time NSCAA All-America and the 2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Anasi registered two assists last season and guided the Blue Devils to six shutouts on the year.

Anasi has been selected to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list for the second straight year.  She was the first Blue Devil in school history to be a finalist for the prestigious award in 2011.  In the preseason, Anasi has been selected an All White Kit Defender of the Year watch list honoree and to the Preseason Best XI second team.

Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches that are NSCAA members will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15. College soccer fans will also have the opportunity to participate in the selection process, as they will be able to vote for their favorite semifinalist starting in November at the MAC Hermann Trophy website.

From that pool of 30, six finalists (three men, three women) will be chosen for the award. The winners will be announced in January.

Duke will open the regular season on the road at 12th-ranked Texas A&M on Friday, Aug. 23.  The Blue Devils will close the weekend at South Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 25.  The first home contest will be in the Duke Nike Classic Sept. 6 and 8, which includes three top-10 ranked teams -- North Carolina, UCLA and Duke.
