ALPHARETTA, GA --  Senior Yaroslav Merkulov and sophomore Motin Yeung each posted one-over 73s Saturday in the second round of the eighth annual United States Collegiate Championship. Duke recorded a nine-over 297 to slip into 13th overall at The Golf Club of Georgia.

No. 5 Oklahoma State fired a seven-under 281 to grab a one-shot lead of host and second-ranked Georgia Tech. The Cowboys are 11-under through 36 holes of play.

No. 17 UCLA is in third place with a three-under 573 and will play the final round with Tech and Oklahoma State. Wake Forest and No. 14 Virginia are tied for fourth place at 2-under 574, while Iowa (1-under 575) is in sixth and No. 9 Stanford (even-par 576) is in seventh. Duke is 13th with a 12-over 588.

Nine of the 15 teams in this weekend’s tournament are ranked among the nation’s top 25 teams, making this one of the strongest fields in college golf.

Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans holds a four-shot lead at nine-under over Oklahoma State's Jordan Niebrugge. Yeung is tied for 13th with a two-under 142, while Merkulov is one-under and tied for 20th overall.

Merkulov began his day with a birdie and bounced back from a bogey on No. 2 with his second birdie of the day on the par 4 fourth hole. The Penfield, N.Y., native suffered three straight bogeys at the midpoint of the round to slip to two-over. Merkulov added a birdie on No. 14 and bounced back from a bogey on No. 17 to birdie the par 5 18th hole.

Yeung parred his first four holes Saturday before running into trouble with three straight bogeys. He settled with three straight pars and climbed back to even-par with birdies on No. 11, No. 15 and No. 17. Yeung ended the day with a bogey to snap a string of four straight even-par or better rounds.

Freshman Alexander Matlari recorded three birdies en route to a three-over 75 in the second round. He is tied for 67th overall with an eight-over 152.

Max Greyserman, a freshman from New Jersey, posted a four-over 76 and is now tied for 65th at seven-over.

Senior Michael Ricaurte posted a second straight round of 77 and enter tomorrow's final round tied for 72nd.

Play in the final round of the USCC begins at 8:20 a.m. Sunday. Duke will be paired with Clemson and Kent State in the final round. Live scoring for the event is available at www.golfstat.com.
