DURHAM, N.C. – Four Blue Devils will continue fall tournament play this weekend at the Winthrop Invitational, hosted by the Eagles Friday, Nov. 1 through Sunday, Nov. 3 in Rock Hill, S.C.
Sophomore Josh Levine will kick off action in the Division I singles main draw at 1:30 p.m. Friday in a first-round meeting with Ernest Alberch of Gardner-Webb. Levine enters the invitational with a 9-3 tournament mark after advancing to the singles round of 64 at the ITA Carolina Regional two weeks ago in Cary, N.C. Redshirt junior Cale Hammond will join Levine in the Division I singles draw, where he will face the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Holger Norregaard Friday at 3 p.m. Hammond is 8-4 in singles this fall and captured a title at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational in mid-October. He also turned in a strong showing at the ITA Carolina Regional, reaching the round of 64 in singles and pairing with teammate Daniel McCall to advance to the round of 16 in doubles.
The Division 2 bracket will see McCall go up against Gagan Jain of Tennessee Tech at 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. The Duke sophomore heads to South Carolina with a 5-7 singles ledger following an appearance in the singles draw at the ITA Carolina Regional and a seventh-place finish in his bracket at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational.
Freshman TJ Pura is also slated to compete in the Division 2 draw, receiving a first-round matchup with Wofford's Walker Heffron. The rookie played his way into the singles round of 32 at the ITA Carolina Regional and owns a record of 7-5 this fall.
