CARY, N.C. – Sophomore Madison Granger, graduate student Sophia Ziemian and senior Dana Morin placed first, second and third, respectively, to guide the 28th-ranked Duke women’s cross country team to a first-place finish at the Three Stripe Invitational in Cary, N.C., Saturday morning. The Blue Devils scored 24 points to defeat Elon (39) and NC State (66).
Granger led the Blue Devils to the first-place finish after recording an 18:00.42 at the 5,000-meter WakeMed Soccer Complex cross country course. Granger crossed the line 11 seconds ahead of second-place finisher and teammate Ziemian. Ziemian’s start marked the third of the season for the Belchertown, Mass., native. Morin’s third-place finish is the second time this season the Sheridan, Wyo., native placed in the top five.
Senior Ashley Berry earned a seventh-place finish, clocking a time of 19:05.04. Berry returned to action following an appearance at the ACC Championship a week earlier.
The women’s cross country team returns to action Friday, Nov. 15, competing at the Southeast Regional meet in Charlottesville, Va.
