NEWTON, Mass. – Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and senior forward Emmie Le Marchand have been selected to the 2013 ACC All-Tournament team, as announced by the conference at the conclusion of the championship match Sunday, Nov. 10.
The two Blue Devils each received the honor for the first time in their respective careers after leading eighth-ranked and fourth-seeded Duke to the semifinals of the tournament.
One of the ACC’s leaders in saves per game and save percentage entering the conference tournament, Blazing turned in a pair of strong performances in the quarterfinals and semifinals. The Durham, N.C., native allowed just one goal and tallied nine saves in the win over the Cavaliers before reaching double figures with 12 stops in the loss to Maryland.
In 20 games this season, Blazing has compiled a 1.47 goals against average to go with a .795 save percentage and three shutouts.
Le Marchand scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season and assisted redshirt senior Devon Gagliardi on the gamewinner in a 2-1 quarterfinal victory over No. 5 seed Virginia Thursday, Nov. 8. Le Marchand then added another assist on the game-tying goal as the Blue Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit before falling 3-2 in overtime against top-ranked and top-seeded Maryland in the semifinals.
A product of Worcester, England, Le Marchand’s four points for the tournament pushed her season total to a team-best 34 points. She also leads Duke this fall in goals (12) and assists (10) and currently ranks eighth all-time on the program’s chart for career points (125) and is tied for seventh in career goals (50).
Maryland led the conference with four players on the ACC All-Tournament team, including MVP Jill Witmer, after capturing its 10th ACC Championship with a 2-0 victory over North Carolina in the title match.
The Blue Devils now await the selections for the 2013 NCAA Tournament field, which will be announced Sunday, Nov. 10 at 10 p.m. on www.ncaa.com.
