DURHAM, N.C. -- recently named Duke sophomore Beatrice Capra one of 13 female college tennis players to watch in 2014.

Capra compiled an impressive 15-2 record for the fall season, defeating two top-10 opponents and five top-30 opponents in the process. The Ellicott City, Md., native opened the fall campaign by upending five opponents and reaching the semifinals of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship before falling to No. 2 Robin Anderson of UCLA.

Capra responded two weeks later by capturing the individual title at the Carolina Regional Championship. Capra defeated six foes, including No. 7 Yana Koroleva of Clemson, 7-5, 6-0, en route to becoming the second Blue Devil in as many years to win the regional title.

The former ACC Player of the Year closed out the fall season by earning the USTA/ITA Nationals Indoor consolation title after upsetting Georgia’s No. 3 Lauren Herring in the consolation quarterfinal round and downing Georgia State’s No. 37 Abigail Tere-Apisah, 7-5, 6-4, in the final.

Capra garnered a myriad of awards in her freshman season at Duke, including five ACC Player of the Week honors, ITA All-America accolades and All-ACC Team distinction, as well as ACC Player of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year recognition.

The Blue Devils will open their dual match action Sunday, Jan. 12 at home against William & Mary.
