DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Chris McGrath to a National Letter of Intent. An Atlanta native and Marist School product, McGrath is set to join the Blue Devils in the fall of 2014.
“We are very excited to welcome Chris McGrath to the Duke baseball family,” said Pollard. “At 6-3, 210 Chris is a strong lefty with a powerful delivery. We have seen his fastball at 90 on multiple occasions, and we believe he has a tremendous amount of projectability.”
A 2013 Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention selection, McGrath’s future on the mound appears bright as the lefty boasts a fastball that reaches up to 91 mph. Perfect Game also tabbed the future Blue Devil among the top 300 prospects nationally as well as the 26th LHP prospect in the country and 21st overall prospect in the state of Georgia.
McGrath led Marist, the alma mater of current Blue Devil second baseman Andy Perez, to a 27-9 record and the Class AAAA championship series this past season, and the War Eagles are in the hunt for their 13th state championship this spring.
“Chris chose Duke despite numerous scholarship offers from other ACC programs,” added Pollard. “With McGrath and his teammates, Marist will have one of the better high school pitching staffs in the country.”
McGrath is one of 13 incoming recruits set to arrive in Durham this fall. GoDuke.com will release each of the Blue Devils’ 2014 signing class members, so check back for more information on all the future Duke players.
