DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University senior Nick McCrory has been named the Ronald McDonald House Charities Student-Athlete of the Week after capturing his fourth national title in platform diving Saturday, March 29 at the NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship in Austin, Texas.

Sitting in fifth place after four dives in Saturday evening’s final, McCrory engineered a thrilling comeback to become the first athlete to win four NCAA titles in platform diving. He scored 76.50 points on a back two-and-a-half somersault in the fifth round to move up to fourth with one dive remaining.

McCrory’s competition remained within sight as he stepped onto the platform needing 92.95 on his final and most difficult dive, and he didn’t miss a beat as he executed his back two-and-a-half somersault with two-and-a-half twists for a 3.6 degree of difficulty almost perfectly. Scoring many 9.0 scores and even a 10, the Chapel Hill, N.C., native made history with his award of 94.50 on the final dive to beat Arizona’s Rafael Quintero by 2.45 points.

McCrory also earned a third-place finish in the one-meter springboard diving competition to conclude an outstanding collegiate career with 11 All-America accolades. He is also a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in synchronized platform diving.

Fueled by McCrory’s performances in diving, the Duke men placed 21st out of 48 teams and fourth out of the nine represented ACC squads at the NCAA Championship with a total of 36 points.
