BILBOA, SPAIN -- One day after blitzing Finland in the opening half of play, Team USA stumbled out of the gate Sunday before settling in to post a 98-77 win over Turkey. Trailing by five at the half, the U.S. squad outscored Turkey 63-37 in the second half of play to improve to 2-0 in pool play at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Kenneth Faried scored 22 points and Anthony Davis added 19 second half points as the U.S. rebounded from a rare deficit at halftime. A night after crushing Finland by 59 in its biggest rout ever while using NBA players in the former world championship, the Americans didn't take control against Turkey until early in the fourth quarter after compiling a 17-1 run.

Former Blue Devil Kyrie Irving scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (3-of-6 from three-point range) and added three rebounds and five assists for Team USA. Mason Plumlee played four scoreless minutes for the U.S. team.

With the score tied at 59 with 3:10 left in the third quarter the Americans closed the period with a 7-1 burst to lead 66-60. The U.S. then ran off 10 in a row to open the fourth and open a 76-60 cushion.

The Americans haven't lost since the semifinals of the 2006 world championship and outside of their victories over Spain in the last two Olympic gold-medal games, haven't been in danger much since then.

The Americans are off Monday before continuing pool play Tuesday against winless New Zealand.
