TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In a battle of ACC division leaders, 11th-ranked Florida State scored the game’s first 31 points en route to a 48-7 victory over Duke as 71,467 fans looked on at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

The loss drops the Blue Devils to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in league action, but Duke remains in first place in the Coastal Division standings, tied with Miami and North Carolina.  The Seminoles improve to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in ACC action.

Florida State totaled 560 yards of offense, with 261 coming on the ground and 299 through the air. Quarterback EJ Manuel completed 8-of-16 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns with scoring strikes of 35 yards to Kelvin Benjamin and 71 yards to Rashad Greene. Running back Devonta Freeman rushed for 104 yards and two scores.

The Duke defense forced four turnovers, but the Blue Devils failed to convert any of the turnovers into points. Duke true freshman safety Dwayne Norman stood out on the defensive side with a career-high 13 tackles, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Florida State’s run to open the contest was highlighted by a 71-yard scoring pass from Manuel to Greene and a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown by Tyler Hunter.

Duke’s lone touchdown of the first half came on a three-yard scoring run by Jela Duncan, who rushed for a team-high 46 yards on 13 carries.  The touchdown run, which capped a 14-play, 90-yard drive, marked Duncan’s fourth in the past five games.

Duke played the second half without starters Juwan Thompson and Sean Renfree, as both players were injured on personal foul penalties against Florida State.

Duke returns home to host Clemson next Saturday at 7 p.m.
