DURHAM, N.C. – Duke volleyball senior libero Ali McCurdy has earned third team Capital One Academic All-America honors as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

McCurdy, a Sociology major, is the fifth volleyball player in school history to earn Academic All-America accolades and the first since Rachel Moss in 2009. The ACC’s all-time digs leader, McCurdy also boasts a 3.43 GPA heading into her final semester at Duke.

A native of Tampa, Fla., McCurdy was instrumental to the Blue Devils’ ACC Championship run, leading the league in digs per set for the third straight season. She anchored a defense that averaged an ACC-best 16.76 digs per set and limited opponents to a .169 hitting percentage. McCurdy helped Duke compile a 28-5 overall record, the fifth-highest win total in program history, and guided the Blue Devils to the NCAA Tournament second round.

The only volleyball player in ACC history to win three consecutive conference individual honors, McCurdy garnered ACC Defensive Player of the Year accolades in 2011, 2012 and 2013. A four-time All-ACC honoree, three-time AVCA All-Region pick and two-time AVCA All-America honorable mention selection, she is the 12th player in NCAA history to top 2,500 digs after amassing 2,538 during her distinguished career.
