DURHAM, N.C. – USA Volleyball has selected Duke outside hitter Emily Sklar as one of 12 players on the U.S. Collegiate National Team set to tour China from June 17-27, 2014. The U.S. Collegiate National Team is set to train at the University of Southern California June 13-15 before leaving for China to play six matches against Chinese collegiate and adult teams.
A sophomore from San Jose, Calif., Sklar earned third team AVCA All-America and ACC Player of the Year honors this past season after helping Duke to its 11th ACC Championship and 18th NCAA Tournament appearance. She is the only sophomore in Duke history to take home ACC Player of the Year accolades and the third Blue Devil to earn a spot on the AVCA first, second or third All-America squad.
Sklar was sensational during the 2013 campaign, leading the team with 405 kills while averaging 3.89 kills per set. She put down 10 or more kills in 26 contests, including 23 straight to end the season, and also tied for the team lead with 10 double-doubles.
The U.S. Collegiate National Team roster represents 12 different collegiate programs with athletes having remaining eligibility. The program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team.
