DURHAM, N.C. – For the seventh straight year, the Duke volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a team grade point average of at least 3.30 for the entire 2011-12 academic year.

The Blue Devils have earned the academic recognition every year since the 2006-07 campaign and nine times over the past 10 seasons. In addition, Duke was one of three ACC schools to garner the honor this past season, joining Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

Once again, Duke’s academic success was a total team effort as the Blue Devils’ also placed 13 players on the ACC Academic Honor Roll. That list recognizes all ACC student-athletes who maintain a GPA of at least 3.00 for the entire academic year.

First instituted in 1992, the AVCA Team Academic Award goes to collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the academic year. Duke also received the award for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 academic years.

Duke was one of 130 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball programs to receive the honor for the 2012-13 season and one of an AVCA-record 622 teams overall.

The Blue Devils began preseason practice Saturday, Aug. 10 as Duke gears up for the season opener Aug. 30 at the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
