DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke volleyball team will open the 2010 NCAA Volleyball Championship with a first-round matchup against High Point on Friday, Dec. 3, in Cameron Indoor Stadium, as part of the University Park, Pa., Regional.
The Blue Devils, the No. 12 overall seed in the 64-team national tournament, will host the first two rounds on their home floor on Coach K Court. With a win over High Point, Duke (24-6, 16-4 ACC) would face the winner of the first-round matchup between Ohio and Pennsylvania on Saturday, Dec. 4, in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke won the ACC Championship in 2010 for the program’s third conference crown in the past five seasons. Led by ACC Player of the Year Kellie Catanach, ACC Coach of the Year Jolene Nagel and four additional All-ACC selections, the Blue Devils secured the ACC’s automatic bid the NCAA Tournament and their first national seed in program history.
The 2010 postseason appearance marks Duke’s sixth consecutive NCAA Championship berth. Duke, which has advanced into the second round in four of the past five years, has never lost a first-round matchup in the previous four years (2007, 2001, 1994 & 1984) when hosting in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
High Point (22-13, 13-3 Big South) won the Big South Tournament with a 3-0 upset of No. 1 seed Liberty in the final to secure an automatic bid. The Panthers were one of the top defensive teams in the Big South, holding opponents to a .154 hitting percentage. They are currently on an eight-match winning streak heading into Friday’s bout with Duke.
